Georgia O'Keeffe and Perspective

Our first class of I Heart Art was covering the wonderful Georgia O'Keeffe and learning about perspective.  We talked about O'Keeffe's life and looked at a slide show of her work. 

Then I had an assortment of items from nature for them to look at and think about drawing. 

Rough drafts were done in crayon.  Their final pieces of art were done in oil pastel.  I hate to brag but the class nailed it!  Look at their wonderful creations.

Tots Heart Art Summer 2013

Tots Heart Art was the byproduct of my first summer teaching I Heart Art.  My three year old daughter wanted to do art projects like her big brother.  The fall of 2011 Tots Heart Art began.  This class is designed for potty trained children ages 3-5.  Each class is centered around a story.  We talk, play, have a snack, and create an art project based on the story we have read.  Tots Heart Art will be every Tuesday at my home from 9:30-11 in the morning.  Classes cost $35 per month.  There is a sibling discount of $25.

I Heart Art Summer 2013

I first fell in love with art when I was about seven.  My Dad brought me a T-shirt back from New York with Van Gogh’s Starry Night on it and I was hooked.  As a child I was mesmerized by Van Gogh’s colors and brush strokes.  As I grew older my love grew and grew.

Now I’m a mom with an almost nine year old of my own and find myself wanting him to love art too.  I’m also a mom who finds herself dreading the summer and what to do with my kids over the summer.  Then two years ago my sister came up with a brilliant idea, an art class.

The summer of 2011 I Heart Art began and it was wonderful.  For examples of some of the fun things we did feel free to scroll around on the blog: http://rachel-iheartart.blogspot.com.

This summer I will be teaching I Heart Art again and you can join us!  Every Tuesday from 1-2:15pm we will explore a different artist.  We will look at a couple of different examples of their work and create a project based on what we’ve learned. Classes will be held at my home for ages 7-10.  Classes cost $35 per month.  I do offer a sibling discount of $25.

I Heart Art Schedules

Here are the schedules for I Heart Art for the months of June & July. I promise I will be releasing more details later this evening. I am still working on Tots Heart Art but there is a naked toddler that foils my attempts to get anything productive done!

Coming to Flagstaff

 

After settling into our new mountain home my art classes will be returning this summer.  I  have missed teaching so much and am so excited to bring these classes to my friends in Flagstaff.   For those who aren't familiar with Tots Heart Art and I Heart Art feel free to poke around on the blog and you can get a good idea of some of the great things we've done in the past.

Ladybug Day

Another great book from the month of March was "Ladybug Girl."  If you haven't read this one it is a gem.  We made paper plate ladybugs & strawberries with chocolate chips that looked like ladybugs. The first day of class was short on time, so we colored our paper plates with crayons.  Aren't they adorable?

Day two class was able to paint their ladybugs, but sadly I missed getting a picture of their adorable ladybugs.

Knuffle Bunny

Who doesn't LOVE Mo Willems?  Two weeks ago we did "Knuffle Bunny" in class and made our very own Knuffle Bunny!  Mr. Willems also has a fantastic website that had tons of other great activities.
