Sylvester

Another personal favorite that we did during the month of November!  We made our own magic pebbles; painted red with glitter.

Then we talked about what we would wish for if we had a magic pebble.  I thought I should share mine:

Then because you find rocks in dirt we made dirt cups.

Harry the Dirty Dog

This was one of my favorite books when I was little and I was excited to share it with the kids.  I got some great ideas from the Crafty Crow.  After reading the story we had a dog wash.
Then I let the kids color their own Harry.  The idea was to keep one Harry clean and the other dirty, as you can see not everyone got the memo:)
Then we talked about where we'd go if we were a dog and wanted to get dirty.
Then I made doggy treats aka bread sticks for the kids.
They got to paint their treats with butter and then choose to decorate it with parmesan or cinnamon & sugar.
Cinnamon and sugar was by for the favorite.

Monsters

"Go Away Big Green Monster" was another fun day.  We made our very own monsters to make disappear:
We had silly smiles for a snack:
Then we learned a new song Go Away! that the kids loved singing.

Vampires and other spooky creatures

"Big Pumpkin" was a day full of spooky creatures.  The children made toilet paper roll vampires:
 Their own real mummy:
 And some spooky ghosts:

Bats

In October we've been following a fun Halloween theme.  Children love Halloween so why not celebrate it all month long?  We started the month with "Stellaluna" and made wonderful brown bat puppets.

Week Six: Degas & Movement

After a quick break last week we're back! This week was Edgar Degas and Movement. No, movement is not one of the seven classic elements of art but it is important. My wonderful students working with chalk pastel and expressing movement: Notice the little person on the right?

That little person is my three year old daughter. After seeing all of the pictures of ballerinas and horses that I had put up this week she insisted on being a part of class. After class and enjoying chalk pastel that little girl got a bath.

Week 7: Raphael & Value

Week Five: O'Keeffe & Space

This week we leaned about Georgia O'Keeffe and her use of space. It was so fun to see the kids use bold colors and enlarge objects.
Next week:
Edgar Degas and moving out of the artistic elements we will focus on movement.

Week Four: Rodin & Form

Sadly this week I wasn't handy with the camera so, no fun pictures. Enjoy Auguste Rodin's The Thinker, because we did. We dug our hands into clay and made busts.

Finishing up their masterpieces. There was a cat, sheep, and a pikachu when we were all done.
